Student Story

Necesitamos cuidar el mundo para que no hay basura en el mar para que no hay más muertes como tortugas y pescados. Necesitamos tirar la basura en el  “trash”, la comida y plantas en el  “compost”, latas de aluminio en “cans”,  y papel en “recycle”. Por favor, para los animales, especialmente aquellos en el mar y para cuidar el mundo. Take care of the world like you would take care of your family and pets.

Backstory

In spring 2024, fifth graders in Mr. Belmont’s class at Laurel Dell Elementary in San Rafael worked with architects from Youth in Arts, UC Berkeley’s Y-Plan, and mentors from the City of San Rafael, the Canal Alliance, and the Marin School of Environmental Leadership on a challenge from the Union of Concerned Scientists: How can we reduce the environmental impacts of climate change and sea level rise, while creating a more resilient San Rafael? This poster suggesting ways to Sort your Waste was one of their answers. KneeDeep editors Ariel & Audrey visited their class to see work in progress (below).
