San Rafael Seeks a Waste Management Coordinator

Post Date 4/1/25: The Sustainability Division is hiring for this newly created role to support education, coordination, and implementation of the city’s recycling and illegal dumping programs. The ideal candidate is creative, efficient and bilingual in English and Spanish. Salary is $6,967 – $8,468 monthly, $83,604 – $101,616 annually.

22nd Annual International Ocean Film Festival

Post Date 3/27/25: From April 11 – 13, more than 30 independent films will be shown at the Cowell Theatre in San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture, covering topics from marine conservation to coastal cultures. There will also be an advance screening of two films at the San Rafael Film Center on April 5. Learn more about the films and buy tickets here.

Do You Have a Dryer? Microplastics Survey 

Post Date 3/31/25: Microplastic fibers are one of the most abundant types of plastics entering the San Francisco Bay. Researchers from the SF Estuary Institute think that vented electric/gas laundry dryer emissions may be an important source.  To help them estimate the microplastic emissions from dryers, please fill out this 1-minute short survey.

This survey is completely anonymous, and does not collect any personal information. All information gathered will be used as an average.

Exhibit – Time & Tide: The Art of John Wehrle

Post Date 3/25/25: Richmond-based muralist John Wehrle’s diverse artistic practice spans more than 50 years. From his early years as a combat artist in Vietnam to his most recent digital photographic works, Wehrle explores themes of war, survival, the environment, and human progress, offering a profound reflection on our evolving world and social constructs.

Exhibition: Richmond Art Center, April 9 – June 14, 2025 (Weds-Sat, 10-4 pm). Opening Reception April 5, 1pm-3pm; Panel Discussion April 26, 1pm-3pm

March 2025 “Rising Tide” by Richmond-based artist John Wehrle presents a haunting vision of the architecture along Columbus Avenue in San Francisco is transformed by sea level rise. “As the artists of another time were recording the real and imagined ruins of the past, I am interested in the ruins of the future,” explains Wehrle. This artwork will be included in a retrospective exhibition, Time & Tide, at the Richmond Art Center, opening on April 9. Art: John Wehrle

Our lineup includes: Tech reporter Daniel McGlynn on the community fire reporting app Watch Duty; equity reporter Audrey Brown on the Hunter’s Point shipyard and disparities in toxic cleanup across the Bay Area; Nat Geo Storyteller Sierra Garcia on floating solar; science writer Kathleen Wong on gene-mapping the salt marsh harvest mouse, and more.
