Climate anxiety in younger generations is on the rise across the globe.
Here are a few statistics, as reported by KneeDeep’s editorial fellow Skylla Mumana.
- In 2021, per a global survey published in Lancet Planetary Health, among an international cohort of more than 10,000 people between the ages of 16-25 from various countries, 60% described themselves as very worried about the climate and nearly half said the anxiety affects their daily functioning. The majority (83%) said that they think people have failed to take care of the planet. (Harvard Medicine)
- Google searches for “climate anxiety” soared by 565% in 2021 (Yale Sustainability)
- A nationally representative EdWeek Research Center survey found that 37% of teens feel anxious when they think about climate change.
